Tandridge District Council (TDC) was looking to develop its commissioning skills, mechanisms and capabilities in areas such as:
- Building evidence and knowledge to inform priorities and the way that services are provided
- Specifying outcomes and/or services required
- Developing influential partnerships and relationships with other partners and service providers to deliver outcomes
- Performance and Contract Management.
BPG were approached to deliver workshop addressing fit-for-purpose commissioning to begin the internal capability development process with the Extended Management Teams (EMT). The ‘What Good Service Commissioning Looks Like’ workshop was informed by a high-level review of current TDC practices and internal capability along with BPG’s experience and expertise in strategic service commissioning, exploring lessons learned from 550+ in-house, mixed economy and external service delivery partnerships in the public and private sectors.
As well as exploring the general principles of what good commissioning looks like, the workshop also looked at what skills, resource structure and processes TDC needed to have in place to deliver effective service commissioning whether services would be delivered in-house, a mixed economy or fully outsourced.
